We are living in amazing times: people are living longer and healthier than ever before. Half of all the people who have ever lived to the age of 65 in the world are alive today!  And population experts predict that the number of people over the age of 65 living in this country will double by the year 2030!  It is no wonder, then, that many segments of our society are paying much more attention to the needs, interests, and characteristics of our aging population. 

Government entities are studying and trying to plan for the explosion in our population of older adults.  Businesses are studying how best to portray themselves to the “silver market”.  Medical science is racing to come up with better information, pharmaceutical products, and new treatments aimed at improving the quality of life and longevity of older adults. And politicians try continually to outdo each other as to whose proposed program or policy initiative will prove more beneficial than someone from another political party.
